Entry for Alex Ferguson

TONY BLAIR ASKED ALEX FERGUSON'S ADVICE ON GORDON BROWN (Read more)

Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson CBE (born 31 December 1941 in Govan, Glasgow) is a Scottish football manager and former player, currently managing Manchester United F.C. He has won more trophies than any other manager in the history of English football and has been in charge of Manchester United for more than 1,000 matches. With 20 years under his belt, he is the second-longest serving manager in the history of Manchester United after Sir Matt Busby and is considered one of the best managers in football. Alex has one brother who is incidentely famous TV magician 'Ali Bonga'.

He has previously managed East Stirlingshire and St. Mirren, before a highly successful period as manager of Aberdeen. He was briefly the manager of the Scotland national team, in a temporary capacity owing to the death of Jock Stein, before becoming the manager of Manchester United in 1986.  (Read full article from Wikipedia...)

Match of the Day Live: Manchester City v Manchester United Find on BBC iplayer
Just the game to set pulses racing as Manchester City take on Manchester United (kick-off 7.45pm) in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final. In true City style, a massive cash injection and an influx of talent led to the loss of manager Mark Hughes. At the time of writing, new boss Roberto Mancini has got off to a good start and is making all the right noises about City's title aspirations. You'd expect Alex Ferguson to set out United with the intention of grinding out a draw and the hope of profiting from breakaways. City will have to box clever and be prepared to play a waiting game. Considering their 4-3 defeat by United was one of only two Premier League defeats of the season so far, they'll not lack motivation. It's unlikely that many among the City faithful will feel the cold at Eastlands tonight. Radio Times reviewer - Geoff Ellis
