In addition, we scan upcoming movie releases and TV appearances and provide sections on these too. Finally, we build connections between people via their entry in Wikipedia and every person is rated daily based on the density of news articles that are currently appearing on the web. The top rated people will appear each day in the 'In the News' section above.

 | | Batman (originally referred to as the Bat-Man and still referred to at times as the Batman) is a fictional character, a comic book superhero co-created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger (although only Kane receives official credit), appearing in publications by DC Comics. The character first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939).
Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne, a wealthy industrialist, playboy, and philanthropist. Witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, Wayne trains himself both physically and intellectually and dons a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime.[1] Batman operates in the fictional American Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his sidekick Robin and his butler Alfred Pennyworth, and fights an assortment of villains influenced by the characters' roots in film and pulp magazines. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, and intimidation in his war on crime. Director Pitof's lame fantasy action adventure is a spin-off from the Batman franchise in name only. Selina Kyle, the part-kitty character memorably played by Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns, is here dropped in favour of a new creation. Halle Berry is unconvincing as scatty artist Patience Phillips, who's revived by a mystical cat after being murdered to become the eponymous, ultra-confident feline superheroine - a sometime jewel thief and righter of wrongs. Using her new-found skills, Phillips sets about uncovering a plot to flood the world with a toxic face cream, a scheme fronted by Sharon Stone, who's excellent as a model-gone-bad. What ought to be something for everyone turns into something for hardly anyone, as a romantic subplot involving sexy policeman Benjamin Bratt serves only to muddy the main story. After Batman and Planet of the Apes, Tim Burton continues to rewrite a generation's childhood with a new adaptation of Roald Dahl's much-loved book. A fashionable but superfluous back story aside, Burton sticks faithfully to the text: poverty-stricken Charlie Bucket (Finding Neverland's Freddie Highmore, the film's heart) is one of five competition winners on a guided tour of Willy Wonka's sweet factory. Johnny Depp's camp, childlike Wonka - weirdly reminiscent of Michael Jackson - is fun but ultimately too distant to recapture the love generated by Gene Wilder in the original. The production design looks good enough to eat, however, and it is here that Burton exposes the technical limitations of the once-definitive 1971 musical, employing computer animation to dazzling effect. Dahl's trademark black humour remains, but ultimately this can't decide if it's a timeless fairy tale or, with its video games, S&M and MTV-influenced dance routines, a modern parable.
