In addition, we scan upcoming movie releases and TV appearances and provide sections on these too. Finally, we build connections between people via their entry in Wikipedia and every person is rated daily based on the density of news articles that are currently appearing on the web. The top rated people will appear each day in the 'In the News' section above.

 | Beyond the Poseidon Adventure
It's ironic that this sequel to the blockbuster that initiated the disaster movie cycle should effectively finish off the genre and the career of its king, Irwin Allen. Michael Caine (possibly at one of the lowest ebbs in his career), Sally Field and Karl Malden play the members of a salvage team who come to the rescue of the overturned Poseidon passenger liner and find themselves fighting off villainous Telly Savalas, who is after the ship's valuable secret cargo. Peter Boyle, Shirley Knight, Veronica Hamel and Mark Harmon are among the supporting players who probably wished they hadn't survived the sinking, and even the effects aren't up to much. This crime drama has impeccable credentials, reuniting Mike Hodges and Clive Owen - director and star of Croupier - and revisiting territory Hodges explored so memorably with Michael Caine in Get Carter more than 30 years ago. As with Carter, the central character is a gangster out to investigate and avenge the death of a brother. Here, Owen has turned his back on crime and almost on civilisation - he's living out of a van, working at a remote logging camp - when the suicide of his brother Davey (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) forces him back into society. Despite the film's pedigree, an excellent cast and atmospheric camerawork, there are huge problems with the structure and truly woeful script. The audience pretty much knows what happened to Davey at the outset, which dilutes any potential for suspense; plot developments make little logical sense while the violent climax lacks any real drama.
